The subject of this book is intriguing. Contrary to what you might expect, it does not trace Goslinga’s family tree. Instead, it gives us 108 photographs of people who have been important to him. Some have to do with a particular period in his life or with his divorced parents, others he regards as important for his person, for Ringel Goslinga as he now is.
The most significant for Family Tree is the many empty white pages. This system was partly already conceived by Ringel. His way of exhibiting his family tree rendered gaps between the portraits on the wall. We translated these gaps to empty pages in the book. This created an interesting walk through his relations, and a dynamic form where portraits could end up on left and right pages with empty pages next to them, next to other portraits, or surrounded by several white pages. Designed together with Roger Willems and the artist.
